Frenemies

A change in environment, a change in friends, a change in atmosphere, in all entirety can lead to a change in belief, attitude, and character. Acclimatizing into a system of unfamiliar ideologies alters one’s approach to life: way of thinking and doing things. It takes restraint and self-discipline to resist the urge of fitting in into a substandard environment, let alone maintaining one’s precedent beliefs.

Living in a country whose beliefs deviates from my cultural norms has been soothing so far, but the lifestyles inculcated by some of my Nigerian friends is beginning to exceed what I can keep quiet about.

It all starts with the friends we keep. Friends are not just companions, they are people with whom one has a bond of mutual affection; a bad company of them instigates a pathway that steadily and quietly depletes one’s lifestyle. An open enemy is 10times better than a fake friend, they take away from you, change you, ruin you, and then leave you for dead.
Be cautious of the company you keep

“The Righteous should choose their friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray.” Prov 12:26

The Essence of Life

We will all fall sometimes in life, “but it’s a lot easier to fall on your end than on your face,” says an old American man 👴 known as “the snow guardian.” He is called this name because he lived in the woods for 40 years, but that’s not the issue here.

Falling/failing is not necessarily a part of life, it’s only an unforeseen choice every human is likely to plunge into. But irrespective of how this Choice is made, we can avoid taking the big hits that comes with it. This also requires a different kind of Choice. A choice to see good out of evil, gain out of pain, and life out of strife. My greatest inspirer, said, “consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” “What a rhetoric statement!” you might say, but spiritually it makes much sense than realism itself.

The world we inhabit is all vanity (according to the book of Ecclesiastes), why then should we be affected by things within it; have we forgotten that we are not of this world, we are strangers here, we are sojourners (or you could say, aliens). Wait, let’s peruse on this for a moment: If the pleasures derived from this world are meaningless, why then should the struggles and pain be meaningful? Let’s not focus on the puny reactions of the world, there are greater things worth pondering on. There is one goal in life, which is, focusing on what really matters, I call it “the priorities of life.” The problem is, most people don’t know what the goal of Life is, that’s why their life is a perfect example of Newton’s third law “for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.”[Pardon my over use of the word “life”]. Rita Brown, an American activist once said “a life of reaction is a life of slavery, intellectually and spiritually. One must fight for a life of action, not reaction.” Those beautiful words sank deep into my heart, knowing that actions surpasses reactions. We are all sane, meaning we know good from evil, let’s not allow circumstance define the essence of creation, let God define it, through his word.

By the way, what is that one goal of life? Is it love, purpose, generosity, service, or is it just everything and more? The answer to this question is presently beyond my knowledge, but there is one thing I surely do know…

…Life will never make sense, until you take God’s will as the essence of Life’s creation.

Life Began with Strife

[Life… it all began with strife]

A quick look into the past,
the day we took our first breath,
a loud cry! we made,
coupled with feelings of hurt and pain.
Thinking in our little heart… “what a world of strain.”

[Life… with the poking of little knives]

Time flew as age began to grow,
mistakes became a daily blow,
with little flaws often leading to big spanks.
Failure, also a daily routine
while the results of success was seldom seen.

[Life… an epic saga of Love]

The conquest of pain begat gain,
with every fall to the ground a crown was found.
Subtle heights were attained in the crafts of loftiness,
but the challenges came in fuss, muss, and truss.
A life that started in sorrow became a life of mellow.

…it all began with strife,
with the poking of little knives
thankfully, it’s just a saga of love

Problems are Good!

The full potential of an average man is never brought to light unless he encounters an unexpected form of danger, disappointment, or distress. Scientists would call this the result of an “adrenaline rush,” which is right, but there is actually more to it.

Problems and challenges shouldn’t always be perceived as a counteractive part of life. If God allows evil to persist, such evil will definitely result in good, but sometimes it depends on our level of spiritual understanding. Understanding gives us the innate ability to see the light out of darkness, and of course, the good out of evil.

The negativities of life are meant to align us into discovering  our strengths. A man can never grow strong in his comfort zone, he has to be endangered before he becomes empowered.

Tick Tock Tick…

Tick Tock Tick..

Time ticks me off guard as I tock in haste
Time says “be quick,” even after reaching my peak
Time is a friend that seldom cares as I spend
Time speeds through the night, as I wake thinking I never slept
Time crawls on a boring day, but quickens on a day of merry
Time, also called “life,” kills without strife
Time is money, but money isn’t time
Time is a friend to the diligent, but an enemy to the slothful
Time is present, and simultaneously, past and future

The Evil in Good

“The musical harmony that comes from a harp is ‘the invisible,’ while the wooden structure of the harp itself is ‘the visible’ (the body). If the strings from the harp are destroyed, then the harmony is destroyed as well. Just as the soul dies when the body dies.”  -Philosophical Hypothesis

Above is a paraphrased philosophical hypothesis from one of Plato’s dialogues, namely “Phaedo.” This hypothesis simply describes the superiority of the body to the soul (if the body dies, the soul dies). The human body is being compared to the wooden structure of a lyre (harp), and the soul compared to the music 🎶 from the lyre.

With the present level of human knowledge about the transcendental realm, and with the vast numbers transmundane religious beliefs, some self-proclaimed scientists/philosophers still regard this half-baked hypothesis as true. From a profound point of view, Philosophy is an indubitable dangerous field of study, in that it changes and shapes the cultures and beliefs of innocent and ignorant people. Matthew said “they teach as doctrines the precepts of men” [15:9]

Socrates, a sagacious, sane and well mannered philosopher, has indeed journeyed through life in the quest for knowledge (seeking the ultimate truth). But his willingness and desires to do good has led some people to believe in evil, which is obliquely affecting the minds of men in this present age.

People who desire to do good, sometimes do evil unconsciously

-Pacesetter Abbey

People whose faith aren’t strong enough, people without an ordained religion, people that are easily convinced and thereby confused, people with short-sighted bearings… All these kind of people get easily corrupted by teachings fabricated by men, but only few becomes free from the entanglements of falsehood. If a shoal of fish are caught in a net, only a handful jumps out in freedom, the same applies to people corrupted by wrong teachings.

My respect for Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, et al, still stands firm, but the defects and deflects of their teachings can never affect my sanity, neither should it infect yours. Human beings can only give opinions, but the ultimate truth and fact comes from God.

Life is NOT All about Purpose

Life is NOT all about purpose,
There is more to LIFE than purpose.
It’s a good thing to know our purpose, it’s likewise better to achieve it, but most importantly, it’s best to have the right beliefs.

Lets scrutinize our thoughts on this scripture for a moment, “what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul.”
The phrase “gains the whole world” can be termed as an idiomatic expression which literally means “achieving one’s purpose.” You could be a Christian walking in the line of God’s purpose for your life and yet still divulge the wrong beliefs, you could also be a Muslim who thinks all that matters is doing good and yet still reckon the wrong faith.

We are being warned (from the scripture above) not lose sight of our priorities, not to get too attracted to the dictums of the world nor distracted by the success that precedes our diligence and hard work. Do not let your efforts be in vain by thinking you’re always in the light, not knowing that your are like a bulb that shines bright today and goes dim tomorrow. Set your priorities straight and look deep into your life to cleanse yourself of all the camouflaged stains that has habituated in you all these while.

Don’t be like a goat who thinks its being fed in surplus because of the love the owners have for it, not knowing that death lies in wait for the meat it has to offer. The goat had a wrong belief, even though things were working out well for it, it still died believing in vanity. The goat was achieving purpose, it was growing fatter than its peers, it had a generous, caring, and loving master (in deception) who fed it day and night with the most sumptuous meals, but one thing was missing, “the goat believed in the wrong thing.” THANK GOD we are not goats, but mind you, because we are goats physically doesn’t mean we can’t behave like one.

Purpose without the right beliefs is like a goat who thinks its a pet

Purpose + Right Beliefs = LIFE

Purpose

The light is of no value if darkness isn’t present

The food is of no importance if the stomach isn’t empty

A doctor is of no need if sickness doesn’t persist

All these are literal, but it could as well be metaphorical.

You and I are of no importance to this world, if challenges, problems, chaos, et cetera, are not present.

We are created to be a solution, that’s why we all have a purpose.

“Purpose is of no need if human beings are nonexistent.”

Fact: We exist!
Requirement: Achieve your purpose
